Ok I am running utorrent a while back i up graded to the latest version because i am on vista and it was supposed to work better.
When i did i have had nothing but problems so i deleted and went back to the old one and still have problems problem when i start u torrent it works fine and continues to run but when it is on I can not use Ie FF or opera. none will even open to a web page just keep loading. even if i am not downloading or seeding..i have stopped all torrents and it stays the same. I have even completly closed utorrent. the only way i have found to be able to get back on is to stop all torrents, close utorrent, retsart pc and a few times i ahve had to restart router also I have checked the port and the upload/dowload settings I installed xp on a partition and i get the same problem if I run it off there so I thought maybe it was the partition and have removed that and still get same problem any ideas? |

http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 covers troubleshooting that sort of issue. A lot of the information it requests will hel with troubleshooting.

DWKnight, that was a very good link you provided.
I did everything the uTorent folks suggested, then read that the upcoming version, 1.8, will omit many features I like, such as "Update Tracker" (Announce), so I decided to find another client. uTorrent seems to be more concerned about protecting trackers than providing service to users. Shame. I'd hoped that BitTorrent's purchase wouldn't change the program's founder's ethics, but I was obviously wrong. Thanks for your help. |

The "Update tracker" feature is only supposed to be used as a troubleshooting tool, not as a "I need this file yesterday, give me more peers already" utility. Unfortunately, far too many people use it wrong.
Using that feature does NOT improve your own speeds, nor does it help with seeding. Additionally, the feature isn't omitted, it's adjusted to be more compliant with the standards in place. If you want to make it so that myself and people like me can no longer effectively serve the torrents that we do, then use clients that don't respect min_interval flags. |

This sounds more like a router problem than a torrent problem.
When a router's firewall is filled up it tends to not allow any more connections until the older ones die out. There might be a firmware update available, or you could check the settings to see if you can up the connection. XP SP2 had the max half open tcp connection thing too, not sure what Vista has. |

What ISP/router are you using? I got a new account (bethere.co.uk) and router recently, and connection would die within a few minutes of setting uT running. Ended up flashing the router firmware to get it working OK. You might need to do the same. It's not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.
