I had recently to buy a new puter in a hurry and on a budget so I ended with a Vista pre installed PC... installed all my needed programs and among those, µtorrent... wouldn't work... the solution was quite simple, though it took me 24 hours to come up with it...
My solution was: 1 - shut off completly the windows firewall (in the administration tools - because if you shut it simply in the Firewall folder, it will say it's off but it will still be there ! ) - and I'm using the firewall of my security suite (Panda Internet Security). 2 - install µtorrent under the administrator rights and make it also run under those same administrator rights (in the properties of the .exe) 3- create my open port rule in my router (I had done it before but it wasn't working so I had to erase it and make a new one... and it worked (on the same choosen port !!!!) Just one drawback... when I start µtorrent, I have a confirmation window I have to click to allow it to run and the same window every time I pick a torrent file but it's no biggie... That's how I made µtorrent 1.8 beta work with Vista.... Hope it helps... |

Welcome to Vista!
Vista user tip: Turn of User account control. (UAC) This will get rid of the Administrator install and will make your life a lot easier. If you forget to run a program as an admin it simply won't work with UAC turned on... |

But MS hides the switch, in Control Panel type UAC in the search field.

I had no problems running uTorrent Vista x64. I will add that I never use any version later than v1.6. When uTorrent was sold and parters began to be involved, it set off far too many bells and whistles. I run it after setting permissions thru my router, but my firewall and antivirus remain up and intact. All it takes is some tweaking.

So you're perpetuating the paranoia exerted by people who have no proof to back up their claims because their claims are false?
QUOTE When uTorrent was sold and parters began to be involved, it set off far too many bells and whistles. What parties? What involvement? And most importantly, WHAT PROOF? |

I'm running 1.7.7 vista x64 (home premimum) never buged me outside of the first time I opened it, so to install and allow the program access to the net, configured my router as I always would have done.
