Hi Stiffchicken, Yes m8, I too would love to see the Chat being used a lot more. I would also like to see the other facilities such as The Gallery and The Blogs being used but sadly their not so it makes me wonder if they should remain on the site at all. The lack of activity on here in General has been worrying to be honest. Even the lack of responses to this thread makes me wonder if people even care anymore. The Staff have tried to generate some sort of interest but at the moment there's a worrying lack of activity. So, is this a trend in all forums or just with Filesoup?. And if it is just with us, what do we do to fix it, or should we even bother. I am a member on a lot of forums and a staff member on one in particular and I have noticed a distinct trend at the moment for a lack of activity.. on the forum I am a staff member on I used to only read the posts since my last visit which used to amount to over 200.. Now I am lucky if it is 50. |

The only thing that I can think of that could improve community spirit is the dreaded shoutbox thingymabob. It's a much "less speedbumpy" (sorry I don't know a decent English translation for "laagdrempelig") than an empty chatbox.
Damn I'm really becoming a "walking cliché" here, but if it were possible to have an irc chatroom that can be accessed from the site too, I know I'd at least idle there. If my pc is on, I'm on irc, whereas I always close browserpages without thinking. The community spirit seems to be on the decline to me, but that probably has more to do with my own level of activity the last few months than anything else. |

My thoughts exactly ,im in mIRC all the time my PC is on ,if it was possible to join via a normal client ? id idle in there a lot. |

The idea would be to integrate the chat with the irc channel. So that people can join in without having to install an irc client. Most people seem to hate mirc for some reason.

A Google Lively Filesoup Lounge. Complete with a swimming pool with a spoon for a diving board.
Text based IRC is meh.. it's time to move on up into the FUTURE! (insert Christopher Lloyd Doc photo here) |

Which client are you using?
If it's mirc just type "/server irc.p2p-network.net -jn #filesoup" in the status window. Alternatively you can cp irc://irc.p2p-irc.net/filesoup into your browser or click on the irc link beneath the fs logo and join using the java client. Not much if any activity there though |

I visit FS for the "Tracker, Listing & Search Site Software" section. I've always wanted a private tracker in FS.

Thanks for having the floating shoutbox option.
Let me explain... I don't think that I ever really noticed it before, when the shoutbox refreshes the "refresh" button disappears briefly. The effect is the whole page jumps. It still drives me nuts, but less because when it floats it doesn't move the rest of the page. Of course the other solution if to maximise FS. You could also try to blink once every 7 seconds... |

Glad you like the floating option
Sorry about the jumping, hopefully one of the coding guru's will be able to have a look when they get some time and do something about it |
