http://uk.reuters.com/article/domesticNews...D17847720080813

Conservative party leader David Cameron's pet think tank "Policy Exchange," have just released a report saying many northern towns and cities are beyond help and the population should move en-mass to the south, rather than have the government "waste" tax payers money on urban regeneration there.

It seems that 27 years after Tebbit told the destitute northerners (that Thatcherism itself had created) to get on their bikes, the modern Tories are once more setting their own stage up for being a government of only the South East of England.

Cameron has described the report as "insane" but if you ask me (and most don't) things like this give us a glimpse of what a future government headed by this think tank's biggest fan-boy would be like.

Pff

Tory/Labour - they're all the bloody same now anyway.

Labour don't look after the working man, all they do is regurgitate old Conservative ideas.

It's probably the only way we are likely to get it YMG even though it appeared on the 1997 manifesto.

Dear Mr. Cameron,

I now live in a socialist country, but with investments in the UK.

As I am still on the UK electoral roll, should I vote conservative in the next UK election?

:puzzled, Tenerife.

don't vote it only encourages them

The civil service runs the UK not a political party..... Why are political parties so terrified of referendums they are our servants to do the will of the people... Bullshit, they are puppets of the civil service the same as us..... War in Iraq, I haven't spoke to any citizen who wants their money spent on that or the gazillion pounds spent on nuclear submarines or a bloody plane for the fat twats to lord about in or the 5 grand business lunches . Why is it that no political party EVER keeps it's promises after they are elected blaming it on the last lot for screwing it up so bad there's nothing they can do... The cost of Iraq and submarines would have gone a lone way to helping the National self service...

No amount of money in the hands of Labour can help the NHS... they have spent billions on it and it is only slightly better than it was 12 years ago! Governments burn money because it isn't theirs. I see it here at my work were we waste thousands and thousands of tax payers money year in year out, nothing changes no matter who is in charge.

kind of backs up my point.... The civil service never seem short of cash or the inland revenue... They expect teachers, doctors nurses to take lower pay rises but are happy to allow themselves the fat off the land...

I work sometimes for my mate who a painter and we've painted the same school 3 times in 2 years to use up a budget which wouldn't be granted if they failed to use it all. Madness.....

The civil service for the first time last year was awarded 0% to help combat inflation....This was the for lowest paid workers.. The highest paid got 2% + £3000... The rich get richer and in a labour gov. too

Waste seems endemic... the other week (during one of the hot days) I was in the local council office, and they had the air conditioning on full welly AND all the doors and windows wide open... I complained to the receptionist and she said they like the fresh air and refused to close them or turn off the AC.

I asked to speak to the manager - who looked bored with my complaint until I mentioned that they had a legal obligation not to waste public funds and that I was going to complain to the local press AND the LGO... they closed the doors and windows.

It pisses me off no end seeing such chronic and needless waste by the authorities... it sickens me when I think of the extra state benefits I could be getting if everyone just tightened their belts a bit.

oh waste form the public sector is one of my favourate things. im a carpet fitter and get the occational contract from local councils and NHS. EVERYTIME they order the EXACT SAME floor as the previous crontract. they supply the goods (3 times more carpet then is needed). As part ofmy contract i have to dispose of the unused flooring (enough todo the same job twice more), it usually ends up in a mates house. The next week i go on a new contract for them. once again the SAME carpet 3 times more then is needed. I could have just used the left over from the last job to do this one, but they wont let me i HAVE TO DISPOSE of the unused goods.
