The Highest price in this area: Unleaded 121.9p Diesel 137.9p
The Average price in this area: Unleaded 118.9p Diesel 132.2p The Lowest price in this area: Unleaded 117.9p Diesel 130.9p Thanet in Kent. But then I ride a 125CC Scooter that only uses about £5.00 a week in unleaded, costs £15 a year Road Tax and less than a £100 for Fully Comp insurance... so I'm actually laughing. oh, and the cheapest petrol station is just round the corner... @ jakster, overall it is a supply and demand problem. Diesel is used in many commercial applications, ie trucking, and there is a rising demand in personal vehicles too.
This link will give you a better idea. |

Because we actually pay less (E1,347/litre against E1,595/litre) for Diesel, I was wondering why it's more expensive in the USA where everyone buys gasoline.

In the USA, we rely heavily on trucks for transporting goods. This steady demand means the price of diesel is very sensitive to changes in supply. Before Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the price of diesel was venally cheaper than that of gas. During that shock, the gap between gas and diesel rose from -$0.10 to +$0.20-$0.40. As gas use and the speculation on the futures market declined, it didn't on that of diesel. The price of diesel did decline but remained $0.20 higher than gas. With the recent spike in prices, again caused by speculation on the futures market, the percentage difference remained the same.
Though economists may give mathematical explains for the rise in prices, what actualy happens seems to be more based on irrational emotional responses and greed. They may say supply is up or down but what happens on the futures market is often disproportionate to these changes. |

It costs £1.24 /Litre for diesel here in mid Wales (that's about $13 a gallon). Luckily my Peugeot 407 gives between 42 and 55mpg. Feels like I'm being mugged each time I fill up though.

87 Unleaded: $3.71
Diesel: $4.31 Not too much change lately but it feels like the pricing is still soft and may continue downward. |

Bristol, SW England:
Super Unleaded (99 Octane): 117.9p/Litre, or $7.96/US Gallon My car will not run on less than 95 Octane and 98 or higher is recommended, as 95 reduces performance and significantly increases engine wear, so I always fill with Tesco's super unleaded 99 octane. Combined with this, my MPG over the last 2134 miles according to the onboard computer, is 17.9 miles per Imperial Gallon, or 14.9 miles per US gallon.... *sigh* I hate this country. |

87 Unleaded: $3.65 Diesel: $4.19 From what I've read lately, our prices are well above the national average. Some places in the US are back 'just' $3.00/gallon gas (many cars in the US can run on just 87 octane). |
