Short version: We don't want to fragmentize the forum too much so that's why we don't have subcategories in the torrent release forums. Please keep your suggestions and thoughts coming, never the less. If you don't feel like reading the long version with a meatier explanation, that line is basically the gist of it all!
_______________________________________ Long version: Once in a regular while the question pops up about categorizing the torrent forums differently and I find myself trying to find different ways to express the general feel and notion about how it's categorized around these parts. Not wanting to make people think that they can't suggest things, but I would like to you take a moment and think about a few matters before you ask! There are loads of categorization to be made, right? So, how to split up the forums? By quality/kind of rips, genres, PG ratings? Any other preferred way? Everybody is most likely looking for something specific at one time or another and having smallish sections to look through rather than having to wade through "insignificant" stuff is the obvious upside. Unless you consider the sub-sections to be split up the "wrong" way, i.e. by genres rather than rips and so on, in which case it's probably a nuisance having to go through several forums. Think that when push comes to shove to find something specific use the search form. Everybody is used to that format, after all you don't surf the net hoping to come across something that you'd like to know about, you use the search-engines out there. As far as browsing goes, having 28+ sub-forums or a handful which is most preferred? Also need to stress the fact that different people look for different things. One dividing of a specific forum into sub-forums, makes for ALL divided into sub-forums. That fragmentize the forum and we're working hard to keep the community feel of it all. Why not see the joy in finding stuff that you weren't looking for by accident when looking for something else! (Trying to make a positive note, lol!) Grant you, I find myself on torrent-sites once in a while thinking that the categorization is forked up. But usually it's only a matter of getting the hang of the ways that particular place has and once getting used to it, it usually makes sense. Sometimes I get a feeling that what is really asked for when suggestions like these pops up is "make it a way that I'm used too, there's too many places for me and I have to put in extra time finding out how each specific place is working, so what I want is a general categorization that ALL places use. Preferably the kind that I got used to in the first place." Believe me I recognize that notion; I'm after all but human and feel that too. Of course, being used to this place means I think it's fab here! Now, don't let this general explanation as to why we're reluctant to categorize the forum further deter you from making suggestions or expressing your opinion. Things change all the time, we're in constant flux as I usually say and matters might look differently down the line. But I felt it necessary to put up some sort of note of how we see this FOR NOW, so that you know what's what. Search Tip When using the search function to search for torrents, * Enter the keywords describing what you want in the Search by keywords section * Choose the appropriate forum to reduce the number of false positives by selecting the appropriate forum in Search Where this way you don't have to search the whole forum You may also want to view the search results as posts by choosing Result Type with "Show results as posts" selected **** |
