I know this may seem a tad harsh, but have you tried starving him for a couple days and seeing if that corrects his issue?

I've currently got the same problem with my dog, she eats like crazy for a few days and then doesn't for a few days. Its very frustrating! I found the best thing to do is make sure there is always found there if see wants it.
How's Cody getting on now? Any improvement? |

Sorry, I have not checked on this thread. Alas no, things are much the same, I stopped encouraging him to eat as he was treating doing so as a game and it was taking hours at a time so tough love it is from now on. If he doesn't eat it in an hour it gets taken away and so far he has only eaten the full thing twice.

Is he too skinny? Dogs are like kids, unlikely to starve themselves.

Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah

Well the sulphuric acid's just not the same these days. And you could buy four pints for a farthing back then!

Hey man I also have a Black Lab She is 12 years old now. She's blind and has diabetes. about 4 years ago when she 8 years old she was doing the same thing your dog is doing. We took her to the vet several times and got no answers. Final we changed vets and he found her to be diabetic we started giving her Vetsulin insulin for dogs twice a day her appetite came back and she is still alive.
Dose you dog drink a lot of water? That was the clue that gave it away for our new vet. My dog would drink water like crazy. And pee all the time. Good luck |

Snooks, is Cody losing weight or getting lethargic??
If he's not - if he's still pretty decent and active, then it could be that he's just a dog that doesnt need much to eat. We find that with Bisto, its best to have a bowl of food sitting for her so she can go and snack on it whenever she wants during the day and if shes hungry enough she'll eat it. Direct contrast to my old dog, Dusty who would have your arm off as soon as you mentioned food!!! |

On the contrary Cassie, He is as lively as could be. He does have the most annoying habit of making a real mess when he does eat. And wont eat crumbs so I have to make sure I clean up straight away after him or I'll get unwanted visitors.
