Knowing what's wrong is definitely a lot better than not knowing, that's for sure

Finally adobe came out with a fully functional flash player plugin for 64 bit linux operating systems.
A few notes: - I use ubuntu myself, so my guide will describe the way it's done with apt-get or synaptic packet manager and firefox. If you use an other browser and or package manager you obviously have to do it according to it's procedures. - This guide is only useful until this version (or a later one) is backported to your distro's repositories. - I'm no Linux expert so don't shoot me for not being one. - YMMV Guide: 1. Remove your current flash plugin if you have one by either opening a CLI (terminal) and typing CODE sudo apt-get remove --purge flashplugin-nonfree or using the GUI package manager: "System" => "Administration" => "Synaptic Package Manager" search for flahplugin, right click "flashplugin-nonfree" and choose "Mark for Complete Removal", click Apply. 2. Download Download 64-bit Plugin for Linux <= (direct link from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html) 3. Close browser. 4. Unpack the archive (anywhere and copy) to your browser's plugin folder (for firefox that's /home/username/.mozilla/plugins) to install it for that user. If you want to install it for all users: unpack it to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/. (I have not tried it yet this way, but as I understand it this way you install it for all existing and future users (please correct me if I'm wrong)). You do need root privileges for this method. 4. Clean up and enjoy not having gray boxes anymore. |
