Today is the 20th anniversary of the protests in Tiananmen Square. What are peoples thoughts and feelings on this? I hope China pays for what they have done, the protesters, should have justice.

Not likely. Just in time for the anniversary the Chinese authorities have stepped up their blanket control over the population by banning access to blogs, webmail services and networking sites (not that many were available in the first place!)

The Chinese people will never be able to lead a free existence whilst corrupt, power hungry militaristic leaders are in power. Still, maybe it's karma for all the animal cruelty, eh?

I just watched a Frontline special on this, in one segment several Chinese university students were shown "the tank man" photo and not a one of them knew what it was or what it was about.

It also covered China's "economic success" which only a relatively small number of their total population enjoy, the rest are regulated to ignorance and basically slave labor.

It also covered M$, yahoo, and googles "services" in China, how they provided monitoring software, how yahoo ratted out a Chinese journalist, when the piece was done I had an entirely different take on googles "do no evil" motto.

I'll pass...

in 1989 there was a peaceful revolution and the people in the streets were gunned down (Watch the frontline episode) estimated somewhere around 2600 people were shot to death, this does not includes those imprisoned and tortured or executed.
There is a growing number ever year of people protesting in China, I figure eventually there will be another revolution, though with the current economic success the drive to that revolution has slowed for some.

Maybe when the pollution gets bad enough... I don't know.

China is one big bubble and it's going to pop.

This was shown to LPP back in the days when it was GLP, so I'm just repeating it for reference for newer members. Be prepared to be sickened:

The words "Tiananmen Square" typed into Google picture search in Google UK: Result

The words "Tiananmen Square" typed into Google picture search in Google China: Result

Is there anybody not appalled by Google's duplicity in the Chinese state's cover-up, for the sake of a few yen?

Yeah Google sucks for doing that (I wonder how long till it happens here) but the interesting thing is in 2006 when a group of university students were shown a photo of tank man, not a single one of them knew what it was or what it was about, how's that for covering up, apparently people don't even talk about amongst themselves that their own army slaughtered peaceful citizens in the street.

I don't remember what the program was but it broke down the footage of 'tank man' and showed him being led away, the holds the 'people' had on him as they were leading him away were 100% police or military - he was never seen again apparently.

The Chinese lead the world in pain, torture and degradation - to animals and humans. The sooner those mental, communist bastards are dragged out of their comfy palaces and shot the better. After that I'm advocating the development of a paramilitary wing of the RSPCA to parachute into China and start cracking heads. ph34r.gif

There was some debate on this by people that were there, they stated they were not the police and indeed he didn't look like he was being manhandled just moved before they shot him, barbra walters interviewed a big time leader and asked him what happened to this guy, states he doesn't know, most theories have him being executed but no one seems sure.

sonofshun.com has the torrent, it's listed as "tank man" I haven't done torrents in so long I don't know hwo to add it here and i am pretty sure they don't want it in this forum.

You've just got to look at the way the guys grab hold of him. Hand on the back of the neck, other hand around the wrist. It's Police Training 101.

It also looks to me like "dewd are you f***ing nuts come on..."

The lady specifically says that the police are usually very brutal when they move someone and you see that in the other footage.

It's sad really, if they executed him they killed the soul of the people, that guy is an iconic image of the struggle for freedom and in fact people in other countries state they were inspired by him to speak out.

I know what you mean, although the synchronisation of the guys' movements in the footage is very precise. Also, if you watch the blokes on the bikes close in on him. It smacks of secret police.

The sad thing is that it's almost 100% certain that they put the bloke to death, and the young Chinese of today don't even know who he is thanks to their countries censorship.

I don't find it very surprising. If you remember when Vietnam removed Pol Pot in Cambodia the Chinese were infuriated and started a war with Vietnam.
