If Your ISP doesn't support binray groups the only way is to pay for the service, I'm afraid...

Indeed.... free ones pop up from time to time, but they rarely stay open, and those that do offer such poor retention and/or access to binary groups that they're usually worse than useless.
If you're making the switch to newsgroups from P2P, then it's just one of the things that you have to come to terms with, I'm afraid... if you want usable access to Usenet, then either choose an ISP that bundles it free, or cough up the paltry sum of £1.50 (approx) a week that a premium service costs. If you want free, insecure and slow, stick with P2P. |

Actually a mix of P2P and newsgroups is the best way to fly

Actually a mix of P2P and newsgroups is the best way to fly Many Usenet users don't use P2P at all anymore (including me).... by comparison P2P is just too slow and insecure to be faffing around with. Many people (not all, granted) often find that once they master Usenet they never go back to P2P. Of course, in order to appreciate binary Usenet's speed advantages fully, you need a fast broadband connection. BitTorrent for example will often chug away at 500k-2meg (maybe even a bit more on the odd lucky occasion) but Usenet will max out your 8, 16, 24+ meg connections all the time.... then of course, there's the added bonus of not having to seed or worry about MP** and RI** tagging your download. |
