I used to make this as a kid, and yesterday I remembered the recipe to make some, so here goes:
Ingredients 500g butter 500g oats Small tin golden syrup Rolled oats are ideal, but I can't buy them here, so I used regular oats, and the flapjack came out sort of nutty - not bad at all. Method Get a plasic mixer bowl, and dump the butter and syrup in. Microwave untill everything is hot and melted. Add all the oats, and mix well The temperature of the oven is critical. Too hot, and you will be making oat brittle! Gas mark 4 - 325F - 180C Leave it until the flapjack looks done. Basically, the oven is driving water from the butter and syrup and making the oats absorb sugar, so too long will make the flapjack hard; too short will make the flapjack fall apart. When you take it out, it will be too soft - that's OK because the syrup/butter will harden in the fridge. Kids love soft flapjack, and the oats are good for them! |
