When asking a question on Filesoup (or most other boards for that matter) there are some do's and don'ts. Sticking to these will encourage people read and answer your question much faster!

First: Read the forum rules
We take time for your problem, so please show that you are thankful by at least reading the Rules of the forum.
****
Also, read the stickies. You already are reading this, that's a start. One covers all major problems:
****

Before you post
Take the time to do your homework. Use Google to search first. Also use the **** on Filesoup. Many questions have been answered before. Nobody wants to waste their time in answering the same question hundreds of times.
Also, read the manual that comes with the program/device. A RTFM (Read the f****** manual) answer is not what you want, is it? The FAQ covers a wealth of information as well, check the website of the manufacturer of the program/device.

Topic Title and Description
Be informative. Nobody knows what a title stating "HELP!!!!111 URGENT PROBLEM" means, and often won't even bother to look at it. Describe the problem in a few words, perhaps something like:

QUOTE
Topic title : Laptop keeps shutting down
Topic description : My ACME FooTop 1337 keeps shutting down after a few hours of use.

This helps people that might know the answer find your thread. Make sure not to just use CAPITAL LETTERS in your title/description as it will probably irritate everybody reading this section of the forums.

The question
Tell what's the problem and what you want to accomplish. Tell what you have tried. Give information.
If it concerns a computer then try to post at least the following details :

Processor speed/type/manufacturer
Amount of RAM (internal memory)
Video card type/manufacturer
Motherboard type/manufacturer
Operating System and Version (There are more OSes than Windows)
Version and programs you use that are related to the problem
And everything you think has anything to do with your problem.

If it is a device state at least its manufacturer, type and kind of device. Also state the revision.
If it is about a site include a link. Also remember, it might be better contact the webmaster of the site if you have problems with it.

Formatting of your message
- DON'T POST EVERYTHING IN CAPS. On the Internet, using CAPS is considered shouting. You don't go up to a complete stranger on the street, shouting angrily at him that you want directions how to get to the station, do you?
- Don't be rude. Being rude will not make people help you. Remember, most times we don't even know you.
- Do write in correct English, or at least try. Not all people are native English speakers of course. 1337-speak is funny, but nobody really wants to read it.
- Do capitalize your messages correctly. Use periods and comma's in your text. Make it easy to understand for the reader.

Other important points
- Do NOT give your email to mail answer. Nobody will, and as this a community site, the answer could be useful to others. Also the change a spambot will harvest your email is 100%, meaning much more spam in your inbox.

Thanks for reading, and remember: Don't Panic
