While building a system from scratch I've encoutered a problem I really don't know how to deal with. It's a 775 Gigabyte motherboard, the corresponding 775 chip and a non-stock, no name CPU cooler by a company called Spire. Now, my problem is this, there doesn't seem to be a way to mount the damn thing to the chip. The holes beside the CPU don't have mounts for the screws below the motherboard. In the manual for the motherboard there's a piece of metal shown, a cross of some sort, that might have provided me with those mounts, but it wasn't in the case for either the motherboard or the cooler. In the manual of the cooler there are some sort of black plastic push pins mentioned and illustrated, but again, not included anywhere.
A picture of the fan is attached below. Do I have to go out and buy an extra part or is there a way to mount this fan that I haven't thought of yet?

not a 775 type ive seen before tbh ,all the ones ive seen look like this http://www.arctic-cooling.com/downloads/in...lip-Removal.pdf
maybe rather than mess about trying to get it to fit ,it might be easier to simply buy another cooler ,hopefully a normal 775 pushpin type. sorry cant be more help |

Heh, that's what I did. I probably could have brought it back to to store where I bought it, but the line there always takes half an hour, and I'm not going to waste my time with those people one more time.

ok from your pic it looks like it's the right one.mainly have been with amd so not sure of the proper mounting technique but here's afew pics of a stock intel and they are the same style.Perhaps the cross mounting bracket may be different for that style of cooler better check with the mfg.

I agree. Can't install that without the push pins. IF you can buy a Zalman cooler. I'm very happy with them and ultra silent or go completely fanless with passive coolers.
That fan is crap. |
