In the last week I have noticed that two of my external hard drive enclosures have packed up and gone. They're different makes, one is a generic one from Maplin and the other is an Icy-box. They've both exhibited the same death throes (they just stopped powering up, lights went out and never came back on) and neither of the drives inside have suffered any data loss. (so far *fingers crossed*)
Does anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this problem? My only guess is a power issue, some sort of spike or something.. Also, as an additional: What would you guys recommend to adapt my IDE drives to my SATA inputs on the mobo? I'm after low price and relative quality. Thanks |

Not sure what went wrong... Do the drives power up? If not check whether or not they get any juice.
I got the predecessor to this converter with my first mobo with sata. Very easy to install and it works without hassles. Not sure about the cost though. |

Thanks biebel, that SATA converter is just what I was after
With the enclosures they were switched on, then the lights went out and they disappeared from my devices. I tried flicking the switches on and off, changing the fuses and opening them up to check for damaged connections but nothing (that I could see) was wrong. They just wouldn't power up. |

It could be the power supplies got spiked maybe
I have a couple of different adapters, one of them is the same as the one which Biebel linked to it works very well, I got it from eBay via a supplier in Hong Kong. If you search eBay for IDE to SATA, it'll bring you back quite a few results |
