First part of your question is yes but not all hdd will support ftp. Can you give us a little more info size and make of hard drive.Does the hard drive support htp out of the box? Is this an enclosure you put together or is this a external hard drive pre-built.Are you planning on using this as a home server,do you need external contact, passwords to be given out for access? You can also check this site out as well free ftp solution

Do you need the ftp to get the files from the external hdd to your pc over a network or do you want to to make an ftp server on your pc that serves files from the external hdd to the network or internet?

Hey guys, I needed to make an ftp out of an external harddrive. is there any way of doing t his i'm not familiar with the ftp format and I use them rarely. FAT32 or NTFS is fine. but where do you want to send/receive files to/from what ftp software do you have ? probably the best client is FlashFXP & if needed BulletProof FTPS as a server option. plenty of easy tutorials on the net for both |
