So this laptop is knackered it makes this weird loud spinnig noise and its the harddrive. I took it out and its a
hdd2183 toshiba which turns out to be a : http://www.superwarehouse.com/Toshiba_MK60...D2183/ps/229315 Toshiba MK6021GAS 60GB Laptop Hard Drive with these dimensions. 0.37" x 2.75" x 3.94" (no clue..) I want to buy a new one but I can only find loads of SATA and 2 PATA's from the online store here. samsung HDD 120GB 8MB [5400rpm, HM121HC] and when I google HM121HC I get this: which list this crap: Samsung Spinpoint M5 HM121HC 120 GB Notebook Hard Drive General Features: 120 GB formatted capacity UDMA/100 5400 RPM spindle speed 8 MB buffer 12 ms average seek time 5.6 ms average latency ATA Security Mode Feature Set ATA S.M.A.R.T. Feature Set TuMR/PMR head with FOD technology SilentSeek Supports Automatic Acoustic Management(AAM) NoiseGuard Load/Unload Head Technology 2.5-inch form factor 9.5 mm drive height Power Specifications: DC +5A, 0.85A Regulatory Approvals: cULus CE VVCI BSMI C-Tick TUV MIC Package Includes: Samsung 120 GB Notebook Hard Drive only Additional Information: Notes: Model: HM121HC Product Requirements: IDE controller 9.5 mm drive bay or 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch IDE conversion kit Available 3.5-inch drive bay Available power connector IDE cable ========================================== Any ideas as to whether I can buy this and put it in the laptop, cause the dimensions make no sense and I have no idea about the inches of laptops. My guess would be they are 2.5 inch as the Samsung states 2,5 inch form factor, but.... what about the Toshiba? Are there any other sizes too? The Toshiba MK6021GAS 60GB Laptop Hard Drive is a 2.5 inch Hard drive.. The samsung will PHYSICALLY fit but you would have to check if the laptop will support a 120gb Harddrive.

Mixing " and mm to make everything crystal clear
You should be able to put any pata 2.5" drive in your laptop without hassle. If you run win2K or lower you will have problems using more than 130(?) gig though. (unless win2K has bigdriveenabler standard now) |

Thanks just ordered it. Thanks for clearing that up! That 2.5" looks so tiny in real life! And yeah the laptop is only 4 years old so it will probably support that, why wouldn't it? Samsung SENS p29
