If you're looking to join an .avi movie which has been split into 2 parts (2x700mb) then here's a guide showing how to using VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod, both of which are freeware applications.
http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/14/59/ As the name indicates VirtualDubMod is a modified version of VirtualDub. Remember though that if the audio has been encoded as VBR (Variable Bit Rate) then most of the time it won't be possible to join the 2 .avi's into one file without stripping the audio from the .avi's & re-encoding as CBR (Constant Bit Rate). |

If they are multiple .rar, r01 or 001, 002 files you need to use winrar to extract the avi from those.

...and here is a guide on how to stitch two or more avi's that have variable audio bit rates, http://forum.superfundo.org/index.php?topic=6168.0
My old buddy Hockney gave me that. |

Actually you can join multiple avi's that have vbr audio with the Virtual Dubs. V Dub does give a warning about vbr audio, but when joining you don't do any converting since you put both the video section and audio sections in to Direct Stream Mode, which basically is a copy mode. All you do is open the first avi then append the others in order from the FILE drop down menu. After all are appended and your sure both Video and Audio is in Direct Stream mode just save the file and give it a name. As long as the files have the same type of audio and the video sections are compatible it will join the pieces for you.
The thing about vbr audio is it is not as universal when it comes to converters or encoders as cbr audio is. Therefore you sometimes end up with out of sync or choppy audio. As a habit I use V Dub to convert all avi audio to cbr if its not already, and because it works 98% of the time I first convert the audio to uncompressed wav, and then to mp3 or ac3 (ac3 is softer so I give it a volume boost of 246%) keeping the video portion in Direct Stream the whole time so there is no loss of video quality. Since I prefer Ac3 audio I also prefer the specialized version of Virtual Dub called "Virtual Dub Mod Aud-X Enabled" when you install the aud-x codec along with the enabled version of V Dub you get automatic ac3 support and 5.1 surround audio support. If you would like to try it go to aud-x.com (www) and then to its download page and get both the codec and the V dub. Virtual dub is a no install program, you just unzip it where you want it and make your own shortcuts (send to desktop create shortcut). Make sure you place Virtual Dub were you want it, before you install the aud-x codec, so you can point to it so aud-x knows where its at. Just a note: superfundo.org is a crappy site that steals releases and then falsely claims to be the source of those releases -- they've done this with multiple well known releasers -- avoid them please so that they cannot profit any more from their scamming practices. |
