i've googled this problem and can't find anything on it. even the tech who built my pc is stumped.
My mouse controls and screens and buttons and menus do not work correctly. For example...the left button is working like the right button. When I put the pointer over a file or folder, it does not highlight it. I have to click it a few times, and then the folder usually sticks to the pointer. Or I have to find an empty space and click a lot on that first to make the highlight work. Usually when I left-click on an open space on the desktop or a document and move the pointer, it holds and highlights everything like the right button normally does. For example, when I'm writing this, when I left-click on an open space or move the pointer or cursor, it highlights everything in the email or document. The right button menus also have trouble. When I click on a button on a web page or a program, the button sticks and I have to click and click until something happens. And then I have 2 or 3 windows pop up. Or the icon or folder sticks to the pointer like drag and drop. This is all totally wrong. In a browser, when i click a browser button or tab page, it copies the location and sticks to the pointer. I defragged all of the drives. I did a virus scan. I did system restore. I looked on different websites for help. I just don't know what the problem is. I thought maybe i needed a new graphic card, but i replaced that a few months ago when i had much bigger, definite graphic card problems. I checked the driver and the mouseware controls and it's ok. Maybe I need more RAM? I have 1GB, or gigahertz, or however it's measured. Do you think the graphic card is the problem? I can't find anyone who knows the answer. |

Sure your mouse isn't just wore out or dirty?
Sounds like the buttons are getting stuck down. Also sounds like the left and right buttons are reversed. RAM and video card should not affect your mouse. Suppose you could try reinstalling your mouse drivers. |

Check your mouse driver software(if you have any) maybe get them if u havnt.
a lot of mosue drivers have the option to reverse the buttons ,so either left/right handed ppl can use them and feel comfortable. as Shryp mentioned maybe your mouse is simply dying ,altho that doesnt account for reversed buttons. there is soemthing in windows called sticky keys ,if that would affect your mouse i dont know, but maybe worth checking out. |

hi.
my mouse is a basic mouse with a wire. i had a logitech wireless mouse and keyboard but switched to a no name wired set a few months ago. i was spending too much on batteries, and the frequencies were getting interrupted by wireless devices outside of my home. so i have a basic set and i checked all of the drivers. i even redownloaded and installed the graphic card driver again. the mouse settings are correct. the reason i think it might be a graphic card or RAM problem is it seems to start happening when i use utorrent when it uses a lot of bandwidth up and down. i usually set utorrent for the slowest upload speed when i'm downloading. sometimes i'll raise a few to get them going. but it can also happen even when i'm not using utorrent. last week it happened again and lasted a few days - even when i wasn't torrenting. then it fixed itself without my help. it started again today. i shut off the net connection and downloads and it fixed itself again after a few minutes, which was strange - it usually stays like that for a few days. today i was lucky. i also think it might be because of a virus but my scans found nothing and i can't find anything on google about this. if i knew what was causing this i'd fix it, either with a new graphic card, RAM or another virus scanner. Like the dudes says, there might be something in your:
settings -> control panel -> mouse that you need to reset or alter to like factory settings. That the buttons stick is usually dirt inside the buttons. Most mice are easily cleaned, but pay attention to where all the parts go when you take it apart. Stuff like the middle wheel could fall out when you open it up, so also be careful. Blow or use compressed air. edit Have you got another mouse you can try otherwise I would take that mouse apart befort I tried anything else. Like most things a mouse needs cleaning from time to time. This post has been edited by nightspydk: May 26 2008, 02:55 AM |

Try a different mouse. It's not like they cost a fortune. I think your mouse is toast.

i had checked the mouse settings and they're ok. it's a basic mouse from speed link. i can't open it - there aren't any screws or latches.
strangely, it hasn't happened since this past sunday. but i've noticed - i think - that it usually happens on the weekend. i did system restore but that never fixed it. it just fixes itself unexpectedly after a few days or weeks. or minutes. so i'll look for a new mouse next month. thanks. |

you could try a couple of online virus scanners if u want to be extra sure.

i think - i hope! - i finally figured out the problem with my mouse and keyboard. remember i told you the pointer was doing a lot of crazy things, like hi-liting everything on a page and not letting me hi-lite what i actually wanted, and other crazy things like sticking to buttons and web pages, which also screwed up my keyboard?
i think there was some kind of short in the mouse wire. it was a cheap brand and it had a very thin wire attached. but i discovered that if i manipulated the wire correctly, it would work right. but it often made me have to use the mouse in odd positions on the desk. so i just got a new logitech laser mouse, and also a new logitech keyboard, in case the problem was also with the old keyboard. both are wired and not cordless. the cheap brand i had was also wired, but the new one has a thicker, stronger cord. i used to have a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, but besides spending a lot on batteries, it got messed up after i had a virus. so only corded ones for me now. anyway, so far it's all working fine. i shouldn't say too much in case i jinx myself. i just couldn't deal with the mouse problem anymore. |

um jak...didn't you read what i just wrote above?
i didn't want to leave this thread open-ended so that's why i updated it with my solution. now a mod can close or delete this thread. anyway, there are/were no screws or stickers or latches on my old speedlink mouse, so it was absolutely impossible to open it without a hammer. I would still open it :-P Just for fun.
Anyway, I found out that if I chew on my mouse wire my mouse stops as well. |
