1 x ASUS M3A 770 Socket AM2+ 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard 1 x AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core 95watts AM2+ 4MB Cache 2200MHz Retail Boxed Processor 1 x ZALMAN CNPS 9500 AM2 - Processor cooler - (Socket 754, Socket 940, Socket 939, Socket AM2) - Copper 1 x Kingston 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Hyperx Memory Non-ECC Cl5(5-5-5-15) Unbuffered 1 x Arctic Power 700W PSU - With PCI-E, 4x SATA, 20+4, ATX12V, 8pin +12V Connectors - Retail Boxed 1 x NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 1GB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card 2 x Pioneer Black 115D DVD Writer 1 x 200GB Seagate sata HDD 1 x 500GB Seagate Sata HDD (not connected yet) 1 x 750GB Seagate Sata HDD (not connected yet) And I put them all in this. 1 x Aplus Twin Engine Case - Front 250mm Blue LED Fan Side 250mm Fan - No PSU Fianlly got around to building this piece of kit. ON switching on there were no system beeps , which was good, the pc ran through a normal boot, recognised the graphics card, the memory and the sata drive but the one error I get is " usb device over current status detected" and it shuts the system down in 15 seconds. I do not have any usb items plugged in at the moment. Can anyone help me?. I cant get into bios, or do anything. |

I had the same problem with an asus board once. After some googling followed this advice and it worked:
QUOTE The problem (at least in my case) was that my motherboard USB device lacked jumpers specifically in USBPW5678 (chek your motherboard documentation to get to the jumper location). As I said, I found the USB jumpers on the board and saw that the USBPW5678 had no jumper. Plugged a jumper and set it to pin 1-2 and restarted. That did it. Hope that fixes it for you too. |

Searching for that eroor bring numerous results so it seems to be a common issue with Asus boards. There's someone here & someone else here who both fixed it by rolling back to bios 1015.
Someone here found a different way to fix it... QUOTE Fortunately enough here's the solution. The problem (at least in my case) was that my motherboard USB device lacked jumpers specifically in USBPW5678 (chek your motherboard documentation to get to the jumper location). As I said, I found the USB jumpers on the board and saw that the USBPW5678 had no jumper. Plugged a jumper and set it to pin 1-2 and restarted. That did it. I don't know if any of the above will help you at all although I hope it does. Edit: Looks like you, biebel, found your answer in the same place I quoted from. Seems so yes. It was a very frustrating problem. Most sites I came across suggested replacing the bios, which is kinda hard/daft when you can't access it.

Well I can say in all honesty that in the future I will gladly pay someone to build any future PC I need. The solutions above did not work. I even unplugged the usb connections to the extra connections on top of the case and I still get the same error when trying to boot up. If the case was not so damn heavy I would have thrown it out of the window by now.

probably not something u want to hear but ive always disliked Asus boards with a passion.
i constantly hear of friends ,ppl i know and see various forum threads of ppl having problems with Asus. building a PC is pretty easy tbh when it goes smoothly but as uve discovered something like this can be really annoying and offputting. i know its a little l8 now and doesnt help solve your problem ,but seriously snooks the nxt time u buy a board try to avoid Asus, ive very rarely had a problem building PC's using boards from Gigabyte,Abit,DFI etc ,and i build a lot of systems for ppl,if some1 asks me to build them a PC and they want an Asus i always try to talk them into a diff make heh. hope u get it sorted tho m8 ,it seems that Asus have a very backwards way of doing some things. |

Do you have your sata drivers , normally if you install them with a usb device then if you don't do it right it only boots when you have the usb stick in..
might no be it , just a suggestion. |

try removing the board battery for a bit.
id assume that as u havnt been able to get into the bios yet that its set to boot from floppy still ,maybe DL a newer/older bios on another pc and try flashing it? hopefully if its booting from floppy the error wont have chance to come up,with a bit of luck the bios flash might fix it as was mentioned in an above post. if flashing doesnt work or makes no difference,id consider an rma. i person i found suggested: I tried unplugging things from all my USB ports, going into the bios, and incessantly restarting my computer but the thing that fixed it for me was simply turning off the power switch on the back of my power supply until the lights on the motherboard turned off then turning the switch back on and booting up the computer. It works fine now. another: I shut down the computer, turned off the power supply switch in the back and waited for the light on the MB to go out. Then I got out the manual and searched for the USB power jumpers. There was one up near the LAN connector, and it had a jumper on it in the default position. Then I found another one, the USBPW56 connector down next to the CMOS battery... lo and behold IT HAD NO JUMPER! I searched my scrap heap, found an old jumper I had saved and stuck it on in the default pin 1-2 positon. HALLELUJAH! Boot back up to Windows XP no problem! reading a lot of these ppls so called fixes and tbh i think half of them are rubbish heh ,1 guy had to unplug his front usb ports then itd boot...wtf This post has been edited by xu: Jul 26 2008, 04:18 AM |

My thanks to those that tried to help. Since checking the jumpers didnt help as suggested by others, if I hadnt read your replies I would have suggested starting there also, so have you tried disabling usb & uninstalling all usb drivers yet ?? |

Great problem ... best bet is to remove it all and recheck it on the bench before hand .... I know it's a pain but if your board is grounding out in the back ... you wont be able to see mounted ..... jumpers sounds like you have looked at that so .... damn love an easter egg hunt like this one ... just bring it to me ... I'll get it fixed or toss it out the window for you
Yep the more I think about it .. I would rebuild the whole thing on the bench out of the case and see if you still get the error good luck mate. sorry early post for me .... still waking up and typing as I think |

I am told in the Mother board manual that the usb ports on the back, the default ones cannot be disabled or the system wont boot at all but i have disabled the rest with no joy. As for drivers I cant uninstall any that are there cos it wont go past that error on boot and shuts system down after 15 seconds.
I have built various systems in the past and you always get the odd problem which I used to enjoy working through but when you try all these different fixes and you STILL get the same damn error you start to lose heart a bit. @DZP I'll install a floppy drive and see if I can get the bios flashed later tonight m8. I'll keep you all posted. |
