What news server are you using? I'm using Alt.Binz with my ISP's news server which mainained by Giganews. My download link is away maxed out, 800KB/sec. As for your wireless, for a test bypass it and what you get.

Ahh !! sorry...this is where I get confused, i'm not that clever with the workings of NZB...I havnt been doing it long, I can download, but the one I use is all in Dutch, which I dont speak, and it takes ages to translate through a translator...what I really need is somebody trustworthy to do a remote and sort out this Newsleecher mess to maximise my 50 MB/s download speed, which has just cost me an arm and a leg....I dont know if there's anybody on Soup with that knowledge, 'cos I havnt been here that long to know everybody yet...
Any idea's will be greatly appreciated.. |

Hello Sadie. In Newsleecher, when you click the 'Manager' tab this will tell you what the NewsServer is. What does yours say? Also, at the very top, you have a 'Speed Limit' option. What is that set at? It should be set to unlimited.

Select the "options" menu (top left, sixth option - see below )
nl3.gif ( 14.63K )
Number of downloads: 1In the window that opens, select "Connection>>Speed" in the left, then select the "user specified" bullet option (the middle one) and set the speed (my max speed is around 8meg, so I set mine to 850 KB/s) like the screenshot below
nlopt.gif ( 21.86K )
Number of downloads: 1Next, check that the speed limit slider is all the way to the top in the speed graph window at the bottom left of the main screen (see below)
Nl1.gif ( 38.18K )
Number of downloads: 1Finally, click the Speed Limit/Scheduler menu option (seventh from the left) and select the option "speed limit: No limit" from the pop-out menu as shown below.
Nl2.gif ( 26.91K )
Number of downloads: 1Newsleecher should now be configured to connect at the max speed the connection allows. If, after doing the above, your speed is still slow, the problem will likely be with the server you are connecting to, or your ISP speed limiting nntp traffic, and not Newsleecher itself. |

I'm assuming that one of their technicians came to your house as I did when I got the 50mb connection. Did he run TCPoptimizer? The guy who came here did so before giving me a chance to test the connection without having run it.
Also I remember you saying that you have a router. It could be worth trying your connection by plugging the cat5 cable straight into the back of your pc rather than going through the router. If you then get the advertised speed then the router could be at fault. This post has been edited by richmm: Jun 26 2009, 01:14 PM |

Or at least try a wired connection from the router before unplugging it.

Sounds like it's either your wireless being the bottleneck or your newshost or client.
Make sure you have set enough connections in your client settings. If increasing the number of connection doesn't speed up things try on a wired connection. If you can't get above 2 MB/s it's probably the max speed of the newshost. Eweka had 20 mbit max back when I used them for hosting. |
