Later in the year I'm going to be out of the UK, but would like to still be able to access 4OD and the BBC iPlayer. As I understand it, you need to have a UK IP address to access these service. Is there a way for me to still be able to access them from outside the UK? Like, fooling them I'm in the UK or something (I feel like a dumb shit even asking this, it's the sort of thing I should know

Hi T sorry I sould have made it clear I will be permently out of the UK. That slingbox needs to have a base in the UK doesn't it?
Anyway, I don't really want to spend money getting at UK TV programming, because I don't watch that much. I just want to have the option to get at special events, such as sport and news and documentaries etc. I download most of what I watch anyway these days, but sometimes it's just easer to use the iPlayer. |

Is there no way that you could use logmein or some other sort of similar app / remote connection, to log into a UK based PC and channel it via that maybe

A VPS costs not so much anymore, find one in the UK and make it a personal VPN or proxy.

@Tootle, I have UK freeview on my TV right now in Tenerife via slingbox. Is that not an option for you? Hows that working out? Is the person hosting the box experiencing any bandwidth issues? I looked into it for our folks in Playa San Juan but always thought my excessive upload and downloads would kill it stone dead. |

Hows that working out? Is the person hosting the box experiencing any bandwidth issues? It's watchable down to about 90-100kb/s. Full UK upload would be 250kb/s of course. The UK box/connection is only used for Slingplayer & a webcam (I pay for it)I looked into it for our folks in Playa San Juan but always thought my excessive upload and downloads would kill it stone dead.
