Ok so i re installed windows because i had to.
now i dont have sound, so i found out i need the Realtek AC97 drivers. when i try and install them though when it gets t the file 'alcxwdm.sys' it just reboots instantly. the 'alcxwdm.sys' file is located in 'C:/Windows/system32/drivers' I tried installing the driver while in safe mode, it worked and i reset my pc and then just after the windows logo on startup i get Blue screen of death. I revert to last known good configuration and it boots fine but im back to square one. i disabled the on board sound and the driver installs fine, but when i enable it i get and instant reboot. Ive searched google and it seems some other people have had the same problem but i havnt found anything which has solved it. Last time i reinstalled windows i remember i had to install the sound drivers but i never had a problem like this. I dont believe its a hardware issue because the sound was working fine before i reinstalled windows. i think if i can finda copy of 'alcxwdm.sys' to download and replace my copy that might help but i havnt been able to find one. Does anyone know where i can get it or have any other suggestions as to what might fix it? It would be greatly appreciated, thanks. |

That Torrent is on the Souptracker which has been down for some time now. So not available.
02keilj - Are you using the original sound driver that came with your MoBo ? If not and you are using a newer up to date driver that has High Def involved, I'm pretty sure this is known to cause problems. Uninstall all the sound drivers you have already installed and try and find an older set without the HD and see if that works. This post has been edited by wng95: Apr 13 2008, 05:16 PM |
