My brother-in-law screwed up his PC again *sigh* and so after d/ling several tools including Recuva as seeing the thread on Formatted PC.
However nothing would give me the original paths So of the 335000 JPG files I need to sort out those that have a camera properties. You know those that you can only view by right-click on columns from explorer. Anyway I'd like to access the date the photo was taken and do a find JPG with it and then move it into a yyyy-mm style folder. Been reading through http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/After_Using_PhotoRec which points to a useful tool called ExifTool (http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/) and It's at this point that I realise I should go to bed otherwise it'll be time to wake up if I start to read this web page... it's erm rather long... and you know I'm no Bill Gates Please can anyone help? |

Use Picasa2 from Google. It organizes your photos by date and can make a timeline slideshow should you desire.

Recuva has an option to recover the original path burried in the advanced options.
"Restore Folder Structure" It is disabled by default though. This post has been edited by Shryp: Sep 20 2008, 08:54 AM |

Picasa... I use it already for my own photos... I'll try to see if I can change the search path. But I don't know if picasa can help me to organise them on the HD???
Recuva ...Well I had put this on and left it doing the deep search for a couple of hours (it got to 3%) and there was still nothing in the list. (I just need to find time to leave it going over night maybe?) |

So the file path is gone
I have to sort them, Picassa is out of the question because it can't do the order of "date picture taken". Yet google However it does 99 files for trial time:( then you have to wait 30 sec, then 40 sec, 50 sec. They even alternate the count down button from left to right so you can't put an auto click! |
